Christmas is coming and although it is a time full of coziness with plants, decorations and lights it also involves many risks for your cat. We have collected some of the most common Christmas hazards and possible solutions– all to make sure you have the best conditions for a cozy holiday with your cat. The cat swallowing a string. Can cause severe damage in the gastrointestinal tract.

Solution
Keep an eye on the cat during gift wrapping. Store gifts and strings at unreachable sites. Avoiding tinsels in the tree or decorate where the cat can’t reach.

Cats chewing cords which can result in electric shock.

Light strands

Solution
Hide cords as well as possible – by using for example furniture and carpets. Spray cords with a bitter spray for cats, containing natural ingredients.

 

Poisonous plants

Risk
Poisoning if eaten or chewed on. Lilies can poison the cat by airborne pollen. Poisoning appearing mostly in form of vomiting, diarrhea and drowsiness.

Solution
Avoid poisonous plants or place them unreachable for the cat. Never bring any kinds of lilies into your home.

The cat’s whiskers or fur catching fire, which can result in severe burns. In addition, there risk of residential fire.

Place candles in lanterns or place candles at unreachable sites for the cat. Always keep watch over burning candles.
